All our ebony comes from Africa (Diospyrus crassiflora). It is a very dark, almost black, wood with a narrow, straight, dark brown fiber with no knots in the highest grades. The texture is especially fine, but that is resistant to wear and tear, which is why it is used for the fingerboard.
Ebony can also be used for bridges and headplates.
